Dr. David Wetherell is internationally trained specialist in urology surgery based in Melbourne. He is dedicated to minimally invasive robotic and laser surgery, including innovative Retzius-Sparing Robotic Prostatectomy and Holmium Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP). His practice philosophy is a patient-centred approach whilst maintaining integrity, safety and modern surgical innovation to ensure excellent care and outcomes.

Early Urology Training

Dr. David Wetherell began his medical training in the UK before moving to Melbourne in 2010. He worked in surgery at Austin Health before joining the Urology Department as a research fellow. During this time, he completed advanced prostate cancer research at the University of Melbourne, earning a Doctorate of Medical Science (DMedSci) and becoming a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS).

Fellowship

After completing urology training in Melbourne, Dr. Wetherell undertook advanced fellowship training in robotic cancer surgery at University College Hospital, London. His fellowship focused on complex prostate and kidney cancer procedures. He has published widely on prostate cancer, surgical outcomes, and innovation in urology, contributing to advances in minimally invasive and robotic surgical techniques that enhance patient safety and recovery.

Current Practice

Dr. Wetherell works privately at Epworth Hospital (Freemasons and Richmond) and holds public appointments at Austin Health and Alfred Health. His practice covers all aspects of general urology, with particular expertise in robotic prostate cancer surgery, kidney stone management, and treatments for prostate enlargement. He is dedicated to providing patient-centred care, combining advanced surgical skills with a personalised and compassionate approach.
